Best Books for Real Estate Investment: The Cashflow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki

Robert Kiyosaki has written two books I include on my essential reading list.  I reviewed “Rich Dad Poor Dad” in an earlier blog post.  “The Cashflow Quadrant” is Robert Kiyosaki’s second published book in the “Rich Dad” brand, and it is another thought-provoking read that goes beyond investing advice to changing the way you see yourself, your life, your purpose for living.

Is your life about working a job for an employer, in return for a wage or salary?  Most people – 95% of the population – are in this situation.  They put away what they can to build savings in hopes of covering their long-term expenses when they are too old to work.  They spend the best decades of their lives in this effort.

A very small percentage of the population represents the people the workers are working for – the business owners and investors.  And guess how much of the world’s wealth is in the hands of this small percentage?  Yep, almost all of it.  On which side of this equation would you like to be?

Yes, it is possible to cross the divide from working stiff to one of the few who has their money working for them, while they are off doing things they enjoy. Kiyosaki explains that the first step in this journey is a change of mindset, a new view of yourself and your world.  Regardless of how much or how little you start with financially, it is not about the number – it is about how you see the opportunities in your world.

Whatever your financial starting point – penniless or trust-fund baby – Robert discusses the strategies for building your resources to achieve the point you ultimately want to hold on the lifestyle scale.  This book is more about achieving the way you want to live day-to-day, over and above your goal number for your total assets.  It is not enough to save and invest.  It is how you do it that determines the outcome.

Working for yourself instead of wealthy investors starts with a change in how you see yourself, and Kiyosaki’s book is well worth the read to inspire and help you make that move.  Some people are working to earn money – but others are working to earn freedom – this is Kiyosaki’s mission.

Are you working to earn and save – or to achieve a lifestyle, regardless of how you finance it?
