What makes Real Estate great?

What makes real estate so great? That’s a good question and one that has many answers.

Real estate is tangible. Meaning, you can see it, touch it, feel it. This really differentiates it from other asset classes like stocks and bonds.

Real estate is also broad and deep. What I mean is that there are numerous ways to invest in it. You can wholesale, fix and flip, hold rental properties, invest in commercial, buy notes, raw land, apartment complexes and multi family, deed of trust investing, tax liens, land leases, farm and timber land…just to name a few.

Clearly there are many ways to invest in real estate. And, with each of these ways there are never ending possibilities. There is never a dull moment. There is always something new to learn in real estate if you want to. Or, you can become a MASTER at one niche and crush it!

As true as all of these things are there is something that I think is FAR better than any of the other compelling reasons…and that is FREEDOM. Think of Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart yelling out FREEEEEEEEDOMMMM!

Freedom is what our forefathers sought when they came to this country. They wanted the right to be able to have religious freedom and to “cut their own path” without the tyrannous rule of a king telling them what to do.

Freedom is something that is woven into the fabric and DNA of this fine country. Some of us may be further from this than we’d like. Others may have forgotten even what that means to us. But, if you will look deep into yourself I would challenge you to tell me that freedom is not something of high importance to you.

Freedom gives you the ability to do what you want, with who you want, and when you want. Of course in order to do that in a half way decent fashion money is required. Remember, those that are homeless have all the freedom in the world but the quality of life they have is not one any of us would hope for.

I know that when I begin working with my coaching clients, many of them are seeking money as their primary objective. I don’t blame them. Money is very important and something that we all need. However, I would challenge you to think beyond money as your reason for wanting to be a successful real estate investor.

I have found that if money is your only goal, most of us will give up when things get too hard…and they always do. Find something greater than yourself and money. For some that may be putting your children through college, for others it may be building a larger house so that your ailing parent can come live with you.

Each of those reasons are larger than yourself. These are things that when your real estate investing career hits a few hiccups you will not be deterred. You see it is unlikely that you will give up on your kids or your ailing parent.

Freedom is all about choice. For as long as I can remember it has been my mantra. Freedom has been my reason for doing what I do. Of course I love the deals. I’m a deal “JUNKIE”. And, real estate is something that always has challenges to solve and new things to figure out. I love that.

But, it is the freedom that being a professional real estate investor that I love most. The lifestyle design is one that is extremely hard to match in any other industry. Real estate has provided me not only with the money, but the time to work on my schedule and when I want to. In short…FREEDOM!

Embrace real estate for all of the reasons above. Work toward your goals to get to where you want to go. I hope that you will consider the freedom that this great business can provide. Enjoy your families this weekend. Hug your kids. Let me know if I can help you find that freedom in your business.

I agree we all must have our reasons for working in the real estate
market. When I started back in 2005, it was for the income. I was laid
off from Northrup the B 2 Aircraft program. At 55 jobs were in short
supply because of my age. Now reason for fix and flipping business
the freedom to family events and fishing. The income allows us to do more with family and friends. We have family grown into the business
as a contractor. IE; daughter and son-in-law. They have college just around the corner. Times have changed in the fix and flipping business today. Andy I always read your blogs keep it up.
I did put a call into your office. However; I didn’t get a return call.
What is the best way to share our concerns and questions?

Gary, thank you for your comment. I’m so glad that real estate has given you the freedom to go fishing and do family events. Not to mention the pricelessness of working with those that you love. Thank you for your many years of support! I always love hearing from you.

I’m not sure why I did not get your message of you calling into my office. Hopefully you have the correct number? I will always return your calls. If you have questions and/or concerns you can always email them to me at andy@streetwisepropertyinvesting.com. I will gladly email you back asap with a direct number if you need. Thanks Gary.

Freedom is exectly my reason as well. Of course, the money is enticing as well, but its the way to Freedom.
I have been self employed for most of my working life, but I still have to work very hard for my money. I dont mind hard work, but would like to eventually enjoy a passive income that meets and exceeds my expenses.
Wholesaling has piqued my interest tremendously, and I realise it involves a lot of hard work, but I think that it is the best way for me to start into Real Estate in order to learn how to find deals, estimate rehab costs and finding buyer-investors to purchase the homes.
I enjoy your emails, and am curious to hear your story, how and when you started, and if you had a mentor starting out.
I live in Phoenix as well, Anthem to be exact, and would like to connect with you. I look forward to your response.
Thank you

Hi John, Thank you for your comment. I love hearing other peoples stories and completely agree with you. I think you will enjoy my post today regarding hard work. I’m glad to hear that you are interested in wholesaling. Have you had an opportunity to check out my course Wholesale Empire? It teaches you everything that you need to know about wholesaling… from finding the deal, to determining their value, finding investor buyers and so much more. I think it would be a great starting place for you.

As for me and my story you can read all about it on my website…StreetWisePropertyInvesting.com. But, the short answer is that I got started in construction then moved to buying and flipping foreclosures. This eventually lead to me “falling into” wholesaling…which I absolutely loved and did as my core business for over 5 years.

I absolutely had a mentor starting out. He was an invaluable part of my success and I would not be where I am today without him. I continue to seek out mentors and have a few currently. I could not recommend highly enough to you the importance of a mentor. If you would like to discuss further ways that I could help you beyond my course I would love to chat.

Its always nice to get to meet people that are here in the Phoenix area locally. Feel free to email me direct at andy@streetwisepropertyinvesting.com.
